During my tour of the Rhône valley I visited the new winery at M. Chapoutier where I tasted the Le Méal 09 from the barrel with an old friend of La Motte, Emanual Ravilleon, who is on the management team at M. Chapoutier. Le Méal is made from Syrah grapes grown from 50-year-old vines on the Méal hillside. Above is a photo with Emanual in the new winery.
I also tasted with Andre Perret in Rhône (see picture below). Andre is one of the leading producers of Northern Rhône whites and is known for his Condrieus. His Condrieu 06 is outstanding! The Condrieu is made with as little intervention as possible, but there is use of bâtonnage and half the wine spends some time in used oak.
