I see that the winelands of South Africa’s Western Cape have just got a great write-up in the November edition of the Robb Report, the luxury goods and services magazine. The article is a nice overview of the many wine estates and wine tourism organizations working so hard to make unforgettable wines and experiences.
Below are a couple of quotes from the article which can be read in its entirety here. The photo above is taken from the title page of the article which is titled “Cape Crusader”. I came across the article via Mike Ratcliffe’s Twitter feed.
“There is much to recommend about South Africa’s winelands: the breathtaking natural scenery, the elegant vineyard estates, the world-class restaurants, and, yes, even the Pinotage.”
“We expect vineyards to be picturesque. But what distinguishes the Western Cape from other highly touted winemaking regions – the Napa Valley and Bordeaux come to mind – is that the region’s villages and roadsides are no less atmospheric than the vineyards.
“Few would have guessed that 15 years after the forgettable showing at the London fair South Africa’s vintners would be producing wines as impressive as their vineyards’ scenery.”
