Technology and wine seem to getting closer and closer. Tesco has just launched an iPhone application that allows customers to take a picture of a wine label and check whether it is stocked by Tesco with an option to buy the wine.
The application works by recognising the label photographed by the iPhone. Tesco currently has over 1,000 wines on its database and can supply details such as tasting notes about the wine. The application, called Tesco Wine Finder, can also suggest wine depending on budget, food or country of origin.
Tesco is not the only one providing a wine-related application for the iPhone. The iPhone version of Platter’s 2009 guide to South African wine is currently the top-selling iPhone application for the South African version of the iTunes stores.
The Platter’s guide includes nice features such as the ability to create lists of personal favourites as well as using GPS mapping to locate the wine estate.
