Neil Pendock Records My Unhappiness with Wine Taxes

I have previously spoken about my unhappiness with the taxes imposed on South African wines entering the Chinese market. Well-known South African wine journalist Neil Pendock has just written a blog post for the Sunday Times highlighting this unhappiness. This is what Neil had to say:

“Hein Koegelenberg sells one in every two bottles of SA wine sold in China. And he’s not a happy chap. For taxes on wines from Chile and New Zealand are 20% less than those levied on SA exports to the Middle Kingdom. So much for the much vaunted BRICS status!

“Hein has spoken to several bureaucrats in SA government structures and has a novel proposal – if any tax saving is forthcoming, it be applied to marketing SA wine in China”.
