My wife Hanneli and I are currently in France for a meeting of the Commanderie de Bordeaux, a global grouping of wine lovers interested in the development and promotion of Bordeaux wines. The Commanderie de Bordeaux was started in 1952 by Henri Martin, a key figure in the Bordeaux wine industry and then President of the powerful Conseil Interprofessionel du Vin de Bordeaux. Today there are 85 Commanderies around the world. Hanneli is the Maitre of the South African Commanderie and I serve as a commandeur of the South African Commanderie. In the photo above the current President of the Commanderie de Bordeaux Emmanuel Cruse addresses the gathering. To the right of him is well-known French politician Alain Juppe, who is the the mayor of Bordeaux.
