La Motte’s Lavender Fields

December 30, 2009

At this time of the year, one of the most beautiful parts of the La Motte estate is the lavender field situated just across the road from the historic entrance to La Motte. The fields have, in recent years, become one of the most photographed sites in the Franschhoek valley, especially when offset against the simple white building that sits in the middle of the field.  Known as the Veepos (its name literally meaning “the cattle post”) this humble building dates back to 1712 and is one of the oldest in the valley. If you are driving into Franschhoek, you won’t miss the lavender fields. Enjoy.
