As the 2010 harvest continues the results are looking very encouraging for an excellent 2010 vintage. The prolonged cold weather has meant there are no stress-related issues due to heat and we have very good analysis of the juice with a low pHs and high natural acid.
The tannins in the skin of the red grape are also soft, which presents some challenges in harvesting and sorting, but overall adds to the quality of the vintage. We had quite a severe green harvest but only after the berries had reached full size, resulting in the harvested berries being very concentrated.
Although the overall industry yield is down, this won’t affect our output because we sourced more grapes in anticipation of the lower yield. The new cellar design is also working very well and there are no bottlenecks or staff having to work late into the night.
So all-in-all, things are coming together very nicely and pointing towards the 2010 vintage being an excellent one.
