We are so excited about a series of food and wine events that we are hosting in China this week. Introducing the culture of food and wine to Asia is not always easy because of the flavours of Asian cuisine as well as the fact that palate preferences differ quite significantly from what we know in the West.
Up till now our efforts have however been met with huge enthusiasm and our agents, Aussino, already has 10 wine shops that have also opened their own restaurants! Quite European, really.
Last night, we kicked off the week of food and wine with a very successful food and wine pairing dinner prepared by our own Franschhoek-based chef, Pieter de Jager. This week he will be cooking in Chinese kitchens, with Chinese ingredients and with Chinese chefs and then make wine recommendations.
The aim is to introduce the concept of food and wine pairing and to inspire restaurant owners and chefs to continue with this theme. Understanding and enjoying food and wine combinations encourage restaurant patrons to order wine rather than spirits. In a culture where corporate entertainment is so important, this new way of appreciating restaurant dining, also generates discussion and is a popular way of making conversation.
Chef Pieter and Marius Kotze, Sales Director for La Motte and a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.leopardsleap.co.za/”>Leopard’s Leap wine brands, are looking forward to a week of touring China, cooking and pouring and sharing our passion and enthusiasm for well-matched food and wine.
