Cooking Wines

We have seen a lot of marketing innovation in helping people choose wines from sample tubes ordered online to packaging that focuses on what food the wine can be paired with. California-based Académie Culinary Wines is taking the same concept of “easy to use” and applying it to wines for cooking.

Under the tagline “never cook with a wine you wouldn’t drink”, Académie states that its wines “are sourced directly from California’s premier wine regions. With the help of gourmet chefs, we have developed four blends that help make your everyday gourmet creations the best they can possibly be.”

The wines come in four blends, the first is designed for use in red sauces and meat dishes; the second for seafood, poultry and pork; the third complements poultry and beef dishes; whilst the last one can be used with fish and lamb dishes.

Académie says its wines are blended to accent and highlight the best aspects of your cooking. The labels clearly state what the wine will add to the cooking. For example the blend for red sauces and meat dishes will add depth and complexity to the food.

And the wines are not just for cooking. “You can drink these wines! These wines taste great as an ingredient or on their own. Pour yourself a glass (or two!) as you cook your meal,” the company says on its website.
