At La Motte classic music is very important to us. My wife, Hanneli, is a talented mezzo-soprano. Every year we have a series of monthly concerts that feature the very best of local and international musicians. We therefore didn’t think twice when offered the opportunity to sponsor the classic musical festival in La Motte’s home town of Franschhoek.
The Franschhoek La Motte Classic music festival will be held this coming weekend, 31 October to 1 November, throughout the town with some incredible performances promised. Here is a sampling of what is on offer:
The opening concert featuring Matthew Reid and members of the Camerata Tinta Barocca being held on the La Motte wine estate. This concert will include works by Mozart and Haydn amongst others. Also on the Friday night Bronwen Forbay, the Standard Bank Young Artist for 2007, will present a programme of opera arias and song at the NG Church in Franschhoek
On Saturday morning, 16-year-old Jacqueline Wedderburn-Maxwell, winner of the 2008 Artscape National Youth Music Competition prize including the prize for Best Concerto performance with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform a violin programme featuring works by Beethoven, Franck and Paganini plus much more.
Other concerts to attend on the Saturday include the Rising Stars programme which will allow young, supremely talented musicians, all on the brink of achieving major success in their respective fields of music expertise, performing in a presentation that is as varied as it is appealing.
Ben Schoemann, internationally acclaimed and lauded pianist, will perform at the Church on Saturday evening. This huge musical opportunity – Ben is currently studying in Italy so is not often showcased in SA – will feature works by Mendelssohn and Liszt plus much more.
The list just goes on. You can download the programme here and book for the show here.
