I recently had the privilege of attending an exhibition of children’s art at Dennegeur in Franschhoek. Dennegeur is a modern village built by the Rupert family for their farm workers, and is focused on transferring ownership to workers, whilst also providing its residents with training facilities like a computer centre, day care, a clinic, sports facilities and a nursery school.
The art competition was launched this year and children from participating farms’ day care and after care centres took part. The farms are Solms Delta, Haute Cabriere, La Motte, Babylonstoren and Nieuwe Son. The goal of the project is to identify gifted children and help them to further develop their artistic skills, while simultaneously giving children the opportunity to express themselves through art.
